When refers to the base material of the PCB, Tg value is one of the most important factor to consider. The Tg indicates the temperature at which the PCB base material starts yielding. It is important to avoid any yielding of PCB base materials. The Tg value of the base material sets here an upper boundary, at which the resin matrix decomposes and a subsequent delamination occurs. The Tg is thus not the value of the maximum operational temperature, but rather that which the material can endure for only a very short time. A guideline for a continuous thermal load is an operating temperature approximately 25°C below the Tg. A high Tg is very important for the PCBs to guard against barrel cracking and pad fracture during soldering operationPCB base materials with the highest available Tg values allow peak temperatures of up to 260°C (Tg260) at a maximum operating temperature of around 200°C.

High Tg is also popular in LED industry, because heat dissipation of LED is higher than normal electronic components, and same structure of FR4 board is much cheaper than that of MCPCB. If working temperature is higher than 170/180C, such as 200C, 280C, or even higher, then you'd better use Ceramic board which can go through -55~880C.

The decomposition temperature Td of a resin system depends on the binding energies within the polymers, and not on the glass transition temperature Tg. A good indicator for this characteristic is the T260 or T288 value, which specifies the time until delamination at 260°C or 288°C, respectively.
