Immersion gold (ENIG) PCB

Immersion gold (ENIG) PCB is a very versatile surface finish, it is a solder-able surface, it is aluminum wire bond-able, and is an excellent electrical contacting surface. It has excellent shelf life, in excess of 12 months, and is easy to inspect (visual) and the thickness is easily verified by non-destructive XRF measurement. ENIG continues to gain market share, particularly after the understanding and virtual elimination of the “Black Pad” issue.The ENIG deposition process is fairly complex; it requires a clean copper surface free of solder mask residues as well as free of any copper/tin inter-metallic (tin is used as an etch resist and is stripped before ENIG). Solder mask for ENIG plating must be adherent and completely cured (cross-linked) to withstand the high temperature and prolonged dwell in the electroless nickel bath and in the immersion gold bath.

Standard thickness of immersion gold on PCB is 1-3 u" ( micro inch) , if you need more gold on PCB, it have to be done by plating gold.
